With the invites out, I now turn my attention to all other party matters ~ decor, design, food. I'm of the opinion that any table or room {yours or any other} has room for design. In this case, Emerson's 5 party will be in a private room at Color Me Mine {paint-n-pottery}. And just like I did for her 4 party at Chuck e Cheese, I'm adding extra touches to personalize the space. For me it's worth the effort because I enjoy it. The kids could care less. But, our party is in two short weeks ~ not much lead time for Etsy purchases and online turnaround ~ i.e. it's crunch time, folks.
Emerson wants an ice cream cake so I contacted a few "specialty" vendors I had bookmarked, but none do cakes. bummer. But how fab are these ice cream sandwiches and did you know Ben and Jerry's offers catering?!? {I may place a sandwich order for attending adults, i.e. me!!} So, that took me to Baskin Robbins, Dairy Queen or Friendly's, all of whom offer cakes. DQ or BR take the lead with simple, customizeable versions. As always, I prefer clean design over fussy ~ even for kid stuff.
As far as decor, did anyone else notice the clear balloons Martha used at her granddaughter's birthday luncheon featured in the latest issue? I'm torn between white or clear, either of which will include confetti sprinkled inside. I want to do my own mini Geronimo balloons. Kids love balloons so it's a win, win. Decor and takeaway all in one. I'm not a huge fan of the "goodie bag" trend but kids love them. So, while I will give out something, it won't be $1 plastic toys. I'm thinking more like handcrafted crowns {like the feathered beauty} and maybe paint pens or colored pencils.

Of course, I'll keep you posted!

love your ideas!! and i am totally with you on the goodie bags - i hate all that dollar store crap! for my son's fifth we had a pirate themed birthday so i sent everyone home with a two pack pirate playmobil men & a bag of "booty" {belgium chocolate gold coins} and for my daughters tea party we gave out sort-of-matching really nice bracelets to the girls and a crayola craft kit for the boys. can't wait to see you photo's!!!
