"...those guys think they're rock stars."

I'm lucky enough to have culinary stars nearby. Now, this may not be New York, but Philly can definitely hold its own on the food scene. Chefs Vetri, Morimoto and, in his heyday, Perrier, can hang with the best of 'em. As can Iron Chef Jose Garces. I have long wanted to visit his hotspot Amada, and, over the weekend almost did. Unfortunately, the restaurant couldn't up the count of our existing reservation, nuts!, so we opted for another Garces hotspot ~ Chifa.
It was awesome! The moody eatery features a hybrid of Peruvian and Cantonese cuisine served tapas style. Yum, yum. We started at the bar and I LOVED the spicy cocktail I ordered. The only ingredient I can remember is the floating chilli. So good. After toasting the night, we were whisked to our table. Our party included one picky eater and a pair of twins and two ginger-haired gluttons. A great mix. We opted for the chef's menu accompanied by a few extra dishes. Oh my, what a meal! Oysters, mussels, ceviche, short ribs, and the MOSTamazing ooey, chewy, cheese-filled Bao Buns you ever did have! Check out the menu here.

"...it's Richie, right?"
Turns out the 8 tousled-hair men seated next to us were rock stars. Billy Webb had noticed the group and their style early on {he notices everything} and at some point mid-meal we chuckled over their age and wannabe "rocker style". Then, as I stood to let Billy hit the men's room, they passed by and I noticed a familiarty. Sure enough it was Richie Sambora and his Bon Jovi bandmates {less boy toy Jon}. So, I asked, "it's Richie, right?". We chatted about the yummy food and off they went. My remark to Billy Webb, "that's the closest you'll ever get to Heather Locklear."
to friends!
{Denons, you were missed!}
