I'm at this weird place in my life where somehow I've lost the ability to get dressed. Or, should I say, put together an outfit.
Getting dressed for work turns boring, piecing together a look for outings ends so-so. In my mind, I want to look chic and stylish, like a grown-up. Oh, and not like everyone else {i.e. skip fall's jeans with tall boots and a black top}. My likes include a mix of minimalist and mismatched colors and prints. But, somehow, I end up looking, I don't know, blah. It may have something to do with my hesitancy to accept my forty-year-old body and larger sized clothes, but it probably has more to do with the fact that my room {which is my closet}, is constantly a mess. Whatever the reason, it's time for a change.
This week I plan to do another purge and ditch things strewn across my floor, toss anything I haven't worn in a year and work to create a signature look. I'm stealing favorite looks from catalogs and pinboards and will build in some new pieces, including ~
-
mary mcfadden pleats
-
leather bomber
-
denim blazer
-
boat neck t's
-
stripes & dots
-
spectator shoes
Classic looks with a bit of pop.
But first, I'm starting with pants. Most of my hangers are occupied by dresses, but on the occasion that I want to wear pants, right now I have a choice of two. One of these being J. Crew's Cafe Capri. Which I love. They're available in many colors and fabrics and will take me from season to season. My plan is to purchase 5 more, including a few prints.
Then, on to tops. I will never love my midsection, so clingy knits don't suit me. Right now I have a lot of loose fitting, unflattering tops. I need to find some cuts that work well on me and stock up. No more Target or H&M or Old Navy. Enough's enough. Instead, I'm going to hope for sales at Nordstrom, Bloomies, Theory, Emerson Fry, Anthro, Madewell, JCrew, and of course, Zara.
The hardest part in all of this will of course be putting away my laundry.
Wish me well!
