It started with colors, then animals and now numbers. My son has discovered the pleasing effects of applause.
Over the last few months, we've spent lots of time identifying colors, naming animals and more recently, counting. Just last night, he lined up all the tortellini on his plate and counted them again and again. Each countdown was followed by a round of applause by we spectators {billy, pip & me}. He loved it.
My baby bear is soooo PROUD of his new found skills and it's just the sweetest thing to watch him puff up his little chest, coyly tuck his chin and put on a happy grin. Adorable, I tell you. I don't remember Emerson showcasing such pride when she was little. It's like she always just knew. From go she spoke her words clearly, recited her ABC's early and even identified shapes before I thought possible. I remember sitting in the exam room at her 18-month well visit and watching her spontaneously point to the pattern on the floor and say "diamond". The Dr. was like "wow, that's impressive". Pride runs deep in this family. :)
But, back to my monkey. It's fun to experience his process of learning and witness his achievements in a brand new way. Like mommies everywhere, watching our kids hit milestones and go through their development is such a joy. A bittersweet joy, really. They grow so fast, don't they?
I can only hope a love of learning stays with my kids and that they always take pride in what they do. With that, success in life will surely come.
