I spent most of my weekend reconnecting with cousins {so fun!}, being crafty, and picking up my new pillow!  Isn't it awesome!?!  Once again, Creative Anchorage.

But more on my projects.  I broke out my trusty old sewing machine {which I barely know how to use} and went to work on some other camper decor.  Namely, a bunting flag.  I used to have 3 of the BEST fabric stores around.  Sadly, they all closed in the last few years, but lucky for me I have a whole closet full of previously purchased yardage.  Green is my favorite color so naturally I turn to it to liven up Rhonda. 

After sorting through my choices, I picked about 8 patterns that worked well together and got to cutting.  This project isn't about clean lines and a crisp finish, I wanted raw edges and a homemade look.  Oh, and zero spend.  

This is my first time making a banner and I wasn't sure what to use to hang the flags, but thought felt might work.  I planned to fold it over and stitch a banner "string", but then I found some green grosgrain ribbon I had stashed away and it was perfect!  So, I cut and stitched and stitched and cut, lining each triangle with felt to give it a little oomph.

then I lined them up and taped them to the ribbon so I could plan their sequence {these things matter, even for a camper : ) }.  I woke Billy Webb up on the sofa {my able assistant} and said "hold this up for me".  Perfect! 

A few final stitches tonight and it should turn out quite nice.  What is not turning out nice is the other little project I started.  Wallpaper.  Ugh.  I hit a snag during the installation process.  This self-adhesive wallpaper ain't self-adhesvie.  hmmmm.....

I've been perfectly lazy about potty training my son.  At his two-year well visit in April my Dr. asked, "have you started to think about potty training yet?".  To which I responded, "uh, no."  For some reason it hadn't even occurred to me. 

Emerson was a breeze and potty trained by two and a half.  Not early, not late, just right.  I can only hope things go so well the second time around.   But diaper changing has been a regular chore for the better part of 5 years that it seems strange to think of life without them! 

I did finally get around to placing a potty chair and potty seats in our bathrooms and every once in a while I'll ask Max if he wants to pee in the potty, but not very often.  I"m thinking maybe August is a good month to give it a real go.  I'm going to troll the web for potty training tips and keep my fingers crossed that all goes well.  Though, truthfully, I'm in no rush and if Max isn't ready, then neither am I.

Webb Weekend.

{RV design update: Pier One decals}

Yep, another family outing with no family photo.  I even brought my tripod! 

We were DEFINITELY going to take it before we left ~ in the driveway, standing in front of Rhonda.  Didn't happen.  Blame running around, anxious to go, and time marching on.  Then, we were TOTALLY doing it as soon as we were parked at the camp site.  Nope.  Not then either.  Miss Pippy wanted to swim, off we went!  Finally, we PROMISED to take it just before leaving, one final shot before we boarded the bus for home.  You guessed it.  No photo, still.  Aside from these missed moments, we had a blast.  It was a quick overnighter to test out the RV at a local campground.  What did we do?  Well, there was swimming {freezing!}, climbing, coloring, cars, frogs and sliding.  Yep, my fearless son braved the 8 ft tall water slide all by himself while Billy Webb played catcher. 

In no particular order, here are my thoughts on a successful family camping trip.

1. Take a family photo as soon as you arrive.  Details noted above.
2. Be prepared to bicker.  Moms, dads.  Kids, parents.  Brothers, sisters.  Mostly moms, dads.  :)  Any first time travel or outing can add a bit of stress.  Learning a new vehicle, wanting to pack smart, hoping to leave on time and moving around all the crap can be a pain in the arse.  No big deal though.  Shrug it off.  In the end, it's always worth the effort and everyone has fun.
3. Kids love s'mores.  Pack accordingly.
4. Learn to love ants.  And every other creepy crawly thing.  It's all out bug warfare this week.  Rhonda vs. Ants.  So long suckers.
5. Find earth friendly trash bags and stock up.  I can't understand how, but my family of four produces as much trash as a small village.  I need to find better products.
6. Music.  Somehow, this was overlooked.  Billy forgot his guitar, I forgot cd's.  Background music is a must and, often, a great tension diffuser for kids.

 Sorry, no shots of our camper!  I was too busy chasing down ants.  Thankfully, just the teeny tiny ones.  I'll post a few photos once her mini-makeover is done.  :)

I have managed to lose the battery charger to my camera.  I blame too many recent outings and all that packing and unpacking.  I can't keep track of anything!  Anywho, because my battery is kaput, I grabbed Miss Pippy's camera {my old one} to use on our camping trip.  This morning I downloaded the images and was given a pleasant surprise.  A slew of shots that she snapped over the last year.

This one jumped out as a favorite.  Her view from one of my favorite days together ~ her first Ramsey Girls outing.  Here she captures our stop at the Philly Art Museum.  Mimi, Aunt Lesa and cupid.

The Webbs are ready to camp.

Have I mentioned we've been gifted the use of a giant RV?  Yep, add camping to the list of upcoming activities on our calendar.  And by upcoming, I mean in two days.  We're taking Rhonda {my name for her, the RV} out for a close-to-home test run this weekend.  It's going to be fun and I think my kids will love it.  Part of the fun for me, has been giving the RV a mini facelift.  Short of breaking out the sewing machine and power tools, I've been tinkering with a few small design details ~ pillows, rugs, throws, bedding, accessories and removable wallpaper.  Billy Webb thinks I'm crazy, but I just shrug him off.  Who says you can't camp with twinkle lights and paper laterns?  :)

Dear Daddy.

 

...I later asked, "Why were you in a Hallmark store?".

Earlier this week, Billy Webb sent me an email which read, "I had to buy it".  Naturally, I was intrigued {he's not an avid shopper} and laughed to myself upon opening the link.  It's not what I expected.  Something for his bike or car, yes.  This?  no.  But, I was delighted by the buy for many reasons.   

1. Book ~ the more my kids are around books the better.  I can't wait for our future family book club.  :)
2. Emerson ~ obvious. 
3. Elephant ~ Max's ALL TIME FAVORITE animal.  It ties with yellow as an ongoing obsession.   {um, Emerson the elephant is wearing a yellow jersey!!}
4. Funny ~ an elephant named Emerson, playing soccer is funny.
5. Try ~ the center of the story: try new things.  Often a message in my home. 

I sat at my desk for the next 15 minutes with a smile on my face.  Billy Webb's a great dad.
