Seals.
After being reminded of their heroics in Pakistan - while listening to the final moments of the State of the Union address* (I tuned in at the perfect moment - it gave me chills) - and waking this morning to find this story, I can only say on thing - these guys are BAD ASS.
Well done, boys.
My thanks to you and your families.
*Update - Vanity Fair's Todd Purdham offers a well-read recap of The President's closing remarks here:
...As he did last year, {The President} saved his assertion that the state of the union “will always be strong” for the last, and he finished his speech in the same way, with an optimistic, patriotic hymn to a nation that can yet rise above partisan divisions in pursuit of paramount common goals.
He told of the signed American flag given to him by the Navy SEAL team that took out bin Laden, noting that some were doubtless Republicans and others Democrats. In a gentle rebuke of those wing-nuts who dare to suggest he’s a Muslim, or a Kenyan, or a Socialist, or a Christian-liberation theologist, or merely what he happens to be—a middle-aged, mixed-race man...—he insisted that what matters is not what divides us but what unites us.
“Just like it didn’t matter that day in the Situation Room”—when bin Laden was killed—“when I sat next to Bob Gates, a man who was George Bush’s defense secretary, and Hillary Clinton, a woman who ran against me for president. "
“This nation is great because we get each other’s backs,” he said. And for the first time in a good while, it seemed just possible that he might have the wind at his.
